note = "Funding Information: Trauma research remains severely underfunded by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other funding agencies. Nevertheless, there have been tremendous advances in trauma care in the past several decades, such that the survival from major injury is well over 95\% in the United States. Innovations in medications, devices, and technology would not be possible without partnerships between clinician-scientists and the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries. Research to determine the optimal application of these innovations and their safety and efficacy requires the knowledge and expertise of clinically active physicians. Consequently, partnerships and collaborations between physicians and the industry are critically important. ",
