Abstract
The health care industry operates in a complex environment that is influenced by various factors located in the internal and external environment. For this reason, top management needs to develop unique skills necessary to predict potential threats and implement actions to lead providers of care to accomplish their goals. It is expected that the accomplishment of such goals (that are in line with the institutions’ mission) will result into a quality product. The incorporation of management tools is a key element to identify not only an institution’s performance, but also its external environment. Also, tools that enable an organization to assess and develop critical actions adopted to improve operations, overcome threats, and participate of existing opportunities.
