Home care in Kanye, Botswana

Abstract

As the examples have demonstrated, the nursing staff at the clinics know the health needs of the people who live in the clinic's catchment area, and they take an active role in providing care to those who are homebound. Even though some may sense a lack of individual privacy, the intimate knowledge that the nurses, extended family members, and villagers have of each other is in fact what village life is like and, in the area of healthcare, can be quite beneficial for all. Solutions to meet the health-care needs of the homebound patients vary according to available resources the clinic staff may have at their disposal. Copyright © 2011 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
