Evaluation of systemic immunological reactions to AH-26 root canal sealer

Abstract

Twenty teeth in each of three dogs were cleaned, shaped, and then obturated with gutta-percha and AH-26 root canal sealer. In most of the teeth, some sealer was intentionally forced into the periapical tissues. Seven days after the root canal procedures were completed, passive hemagglutination, lymphocyte transformation, and skin tests were performed to assess the presence or absence of systemic antibody formation and delayed hypersensitivity reaction to the sealer. The results indicate that under clinical conditions, AH-26 root canal sealer does not produce any systemic antibody formation or delayed hypersensitivity reaction.
